Mary Ellen (Dowd) King

Mary Ellen (Dowd) King,73, of Prospect, passed away peacefully at her home on April 22, 2023 while surrounded by the love of her family.  She struggled with Huntington’s Disease for over 25 years.  She was the loving wife of Jonathan King.

Mary Ellen was born in Howard Beach, New York on August 28, 1949, a daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes (Fitzpatrick) Dowd.  Prior to her retirement, for over 35 years she taught Theology at Holy Cross High School.  She enjoyed crafts and home decorating.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children; Ian King and his wife Michelle of Naugatuck, and Eric and Amber King of West Hartford and their children, Mary Ellen’s precious grandchildren, Noah and Avery as well as her sisters Denise Ford of NY, Dorothy Moser of Thomaston, Nora Maldonado of SD and her brother Thomas Dowd of NY.  She is predeceased by her sister Loretta Ward and her parents.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 1 pm at Prospect Memorial/ The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd., Prospect.  Visitation will be from 12 noon to 1 pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America at https://hdsa.org.  For more information and to share online condolences please visit www.prospectmemorial.com.
