Loving Mother, Nonnie, Aunt and Friend
Maria M. Ruocco, 92, of Prospect passed away peacefully on her birthday Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Beacon Brook Health Center. Maria was the widow of the late Antonio Ruocco. Maria was born February 17, 1929 in Cerreto Sannita, Benevento Italy, one of eight children of the late Pasquale and Carmela (Festa) Teta.
Maria immigrated to the United States from Italy as a young woman during the early 1960’s. She met and fell in love with her husband, Antonio, and together they raised their cherished daughter, Rosemary. Maria was a devout Roman Catholic, prior to moving to Prospect, she was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourde’s Church of Waterbury. Maria was a talented seamstress and worked many years for various garment companies. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking and baking but most especially spending time with her cherished grandchildren. Maria was proud of her Italian heritage and passed on many of the cultural traditions to her daughter and grandchildren. After retirement Maria and Antonio would return to Italy to spend summers on the Amalfi Coast.
Family was everything to Maria. She leaves to cherish her love and memory her daughter Rosemary Ruocco-Cyr and husband Jeffrey, grandchildren; the lights of her life, Tyler and Guiliana Cyr, sisters and brothers; Nancy Ciarleglio of Oakville, Elvira Botte of Wolcott, Mario Teta of Wolcott and Esther Rousseau of Northfield, sister-in-law Filomena Fusco of Italy as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Angelina and brothers Giovanni and Giuseppe Teta.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Maria will be held on Tuesday February 23, 2021 at 10:30 am at St. Anthony’s Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery. All those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at church. There are no calling hours.
