Willie L. Glisson Jr., 81, of Waterbury passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021 while surrounded by the love of his family. Willie was the devoted husband of Clara (Mack) Glisson for over 62 years. He, one of six children, was born on June 30, 1940 in Jenkinsville, South Carolina, a son of the late Willie L. Glisson Sr and Ida (Burns) Glisson.
Willie was a hard worker, always physically fit, right up until the time of his illness. He had a long career as a UPS driver and then after retirement went onto deliver for Meals on Wheels for many years. He was a member of the local Teamster Union. Willie was an avid golfer. He and his buddies spent many enjoyable afternoons at Crestbrook Golf Club perfecting their golf game. Willie was also a fantastic bowler. He bowled five perfect 300 games, while also winning many rings for his team.
First and foremost, Willie loved his family. He and Clara and their children Craig and Dot would travel to Myrtle Beach for the annual family reunions, a tradition maintained for over thirty years. He loved ice cream, fried chicken, smooth jazz, Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross and many more classic artists. Willie was a big-hearted, wonderful man who brought a smile to all who met him. He will be so terribly missed.
