Roy Lee Thompson Sr, 71, of Waterbury passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Monday, September 20, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Yvonne (Sears) Thompson. Roy was born December 17, 1949 in Jacksonville, North Carolina a son of Sarah (Gibbs) Thompson and the late Bruce Thompson.
Roy was a machinist working in manufacturing for many years before his retirement. He then went to work for the City of Waterbury as a school crossing guard. All the parents and kids loved him.
Roy was an avid Nascar fan. He was an amazing cook; among his best dishes were his fried chicken and fried fish. He enjoyed saltwater fishing, watching the Giants and going to the casino. Above everything else, Roy loved his family. Roy and Yvonne loved raising their five children and felt especially blessed to have 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The Thompson family had annual family reunions whereby a great time of laughs and delicious food was had by all.
Besides his wife, Roy leaves to cherish his memory and love his children: Rolanda Thompson of NC, Keisha (William) Eason of Waterbury, Roy L. (Jennifer) Thompson Jr. of Waterbury, Terrance Thompson Sr. of Waterbury and Troy L. (Dile) Thompson Sr. of Waterbury. Roy will be missed by his treasured 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He also leaves two brother in laws, three sister in laws, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Roy was predeceased by his father Bruce, his sister Blondie Thompson Greene and his daughter in law Melinda Rosado-Thompson.
