Lawrence O'Brien Obituary

Lawrence A. O’Brien, 90, of Prospect passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Friday, January 14, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital after a brief illness.  He was the loving husband of Ann (Carangelo) O’Brien for over 66 years.  Larry celebrated his 90th birthday this past week.  He was born January 9, 1932 in Waterbury, a son of the late John and Dorothy (Shutts) O’Brien. He proudly served his country with distinction for the US Army during the Korean War.

Larry made friends with strangers instantly.  He had an engaging smile and genuine easy-going manner which was what won his wife Ann’s heart over 66 years ago.  They married in September 1955 and began their life in the home he built in Prospect and raised their three children there.  He was a man who could fix anything.  He was an appliance repairman for many years before retiring from A-P Appliance.  Larry was the first man to be called when you needed something fixed properly.

Larry was a die-hard Red Sox fan, UCONN Ladies Basketball fan and an avid fisherman.  He enjoyed his frequent trips to Dunkin Donuts, and socializing with friends there in his “home away from home”.  Family was everything to him; his children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.  Larry leaves a legacy of honesty, ingenuity and dedication to family and friends.  He will be so dearly missed.

Left to honor his love and memory are his wife Ann, his adoring daughters Lauren O’Brien and Kelly O’Brien both of Waterbury and son Lawrence A. O’Brien Jr. of Naugatuck as well as his grandsons Wil Lawrence Hall of Mass. and Lawrence A. O’Brien III of Prospect.  He also leaves his sister Karen (Hal) Ljongquist of Wolcott and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Larry was predeceased by his twin sister Loretta Jorgenson who died last week, his sister Shirley and brothers John, Reginald and Robert O’Brien.
