Joan Altmann Obituary

Joan May Altmann, 90, formerly of Prospect, entered into heavenly rest while surrounded by her children on Tuesday, February 28, 2023.  Joan was the wife of the late John Altmann for 63 years.  Born on July 19, 1932 in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Brown and Winifred (Palmer). 

Joan attended the Scudder School in New York City. After completing the secretarial program, she was employed by Associated Transport in New York City.

She was a long-time resident of Prospect and an active member of Christ Church in Waterbury, the Prospect Land Trust, and the Naugatuck Garden Club. She was passionate about preserving land in its natural state. She enjoyed nature, hiking, sewing, antiques, and gardening.

Joan is survived by her son Steven J. Altmann of Naugatuck, daughter Janet Altmann Brown of Coventry, and cherished grandson Evan Brown of Coventry. Joan is predeceased by her brother Kenneth Brown and sister Norma Ackerman.

Joan’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Prospect Memorial / The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd., Prospect. Burial will immediately follow services where Joan will be laid to rest at Prospect Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023 at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
