PROSPECT—Jane Claire (Purdy) Fowler passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020, after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Edward F. Fowler for more than 60 years until his passing in 2012. Ed and Jane met at Crosby High School in Waterbury.

Jane was the eldest daughter of the late Ray and Exzilda (Blanchard) Purdy. She was a lifelong resident of Prospect and president of the Prospect Historical Society for more than 10 years, where she organized exhibits and educational programs at the Hotchkiss House Museum.

Jane was a celebrated artist, winning awards for her watercolors from the Cheshire Art League, the Watertown Art League, Connecticut Women Artists, and Connecticut Watercolor Society. Her pieces have been shown at the Kent Art Association, the Mattatuck Museum, the Bronson Library, the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Stamford Gallery Museum, the Drawing Center of New York City, the Port Clyde Galley in Maine, and, on January 26, 2018, at the Prospect Public Library. Prints of some of her works are available on Fine Arts America.

Jane also designed and hand-made hooked rugs, photos of which have appeared in Connecticut Magazine, Country Home, Country Living, the New York Times, The Advocate and Greenwich Time, and the "Rug Book" from Prentice Hall. She also taught art to many Prospect residents through after-school and adult education programs.

In 1975, Jane was commissioned to design the Prospect Town Seal in commemoration of the town's Bicentennial.

Jane was predeceased by her sisters Elaine Purdy and Donna Marlak and by her son William Fowler. Jane leaves behind her daughter Susan Fowler and her husband Victor Stanwick, her son Thomas Fowler and his partner Joy Marty, her daughter Jan DeCavage and her partner Stan Popowski, her son Mark Fowler and his son Devin, and her son William's widow Andra Ash-Fowler and their two sons Ryan and Brett.

She is also survived by grand-daughter Jackie O'Keefe and husband Eric O’Keefe and their two children Alaina and Ellie; by grand-daughter Rachel DeCavage and her husband Adam Piteo; and by grand-daughter Suzanne Sebastian and husband David Sebastian and their son Eddie. She also leaves behind her niece Tanya (Marlak) Sage and husband Rick Sage, and her nephew David Marlak and family, and partner Betsy Murphy, as well as her much loved Blanchard and Purdy cousins and many beloved friends.
