Emily Mohrmann Obituary

Emily E. Mohrmann, 104, of Middlebury passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, August 22, 2022.  She was the widow of the late John Morhmann.  Emily was born April 19, 1918 in Waterbury, a daughter of the late James and Mamie (Reed) Brundage.

Emily was a trailblazer.  During her 104 years, she accomplished many important milestones for women.  She was a graduate of Post College, then known as Waterbury Business College, when Mr. Post was the principal. Emily was a secretary for Plume and Atwood and later Risdon from where she retired.  She also was a champion player in the first Women’s Golf League of East Mountain Golf Club and remained playing league golf for over 40 years. She was witness to a great many firsts, inventions that would soon become taken for granted: television, electricity wasn't widespread, highways, air travel and so much more.  She remembered her grandfather being a lamplighter in downtown Waterbury and how she would follow him around as he lit the lamps around the green.

Emily was a traveler; she and her sister Amy traveled the world together. In her younger years, Emily was a league bowler at Perrillo’s Duck Pin Lanes.  She was a long-time member of the Prospect Senior Center and the Red Hat Society.  She lived in her own home all her life independently with the loving assistance of “Team Emily” comprised of her nieces and nephews and her wonderful neighbors.  Her Yankee strength and independent spirit remained strong right up until her last days. She was a faithful member of St John's Lutheran Church for most of her life.

Left to treasure her love and memory are her sister Gertrude Symonovich of Waterbury and nieces and nephews; Gail Schaffner and partner Thomas Barnaba of Washington Depot, Karen Mason of Thomaston, John Simms and partner Renee Dupuis of Coventry, Stephen Symonovich and wife Joan of Waterbury, James Brundage and wife Jodi of Washington Depot, Martin Brundage of Litchfield, Jeffrey Brundage of Southbury and Jean Shanks and husband Ronald of Washington.  Emily also leaves many grand nieces and nephews.

Emily was predeceased by her sisters Pearl Brundage and Amy Anderson and brother Edward Brundage.
