David Stewart Obituary

David C. Stewart, 87, of Prospect passed away peacefully while surrounded by the love of his family on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. David was born in Waterbury on March 28, 1935. He was the son of the late Harry and Julia (Southard) Stewart. Dave was married to his beloved late wife Linda (Cooper) Stewart for 53 years.

Dave graduated from Leavenworth High School where he lettered in three sports.  Upon graduation, Dave proudly served his country in the US Navy. After discharge, he continued to work at the Bristol Company completing nearly four decades of employment.

Dave and Linda raised their family of four daughters in Prospect.  As a man ahead of his time, Dave instilled in his daughters that they could accomplish whatever they set out to do. He and Linda were true partners in the home and in raising the girls. Dave had a soft heart and wasn't afraid to shed a tear. He made friends easily.

He was devoted to his town, friends, church and especially his family. Dave was a life-time member of the Volunteer Fire Department of Prospect and a former deacon at Prospect Congregational Church. He even traveled with his daughters' girl scout troop to Wyoming.

He enjoyed sports and played semi-pro baseball and football in his younger years. He participated in duckpin bowling and softball leagues. He enjoyed hunting for most of his life; in 1986 he shot the largest moose in Maine and was featured in several sporting magazines. He was a die-hard Boston Red Sox and UCONN fan.  Later in life he enjoyed golfing and even shot a hole-in-one.

Dave enjoyed many years of camping with his family and especially loved the annual trip to Burlingame in Rhode Island. He spent lots of time at Quonny clamming, fishing and canoeing. He loved playing cards and even clam digging was competitive. Dave and Linda had a large garden.  They preserved vegetables, made jams and jellies and even after Linda passed away, Dave continued to make the jams and donate them to the church bazaar.

Dave is survived by his daughters: Sherie Wilson and her husband Mark of Prospect, Cynthia Clement of Torrington, Karen Albanese of Torrington and Jane Catuccio and her husband Rick of SC. He also leaves his grandchildren: Jason, Stewart, Jennifer, Jacqueline, Shannon, Jonathan, Heather, Alyssa, Christopher, Amber and Tyler. He also leaves seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends. The family would like to thank grandson Stewart Wilson for the loving care he provided to his Pop the last five years of life.

Dave joins his wife Linda in heaven as well as his granddaughter Chelsea Rose Wilson. He was also predeceased by his eight siblings: sisters Virginia Buckingham, Effa Zinko and Gladys Stewart and brothers Harry, George, Clifford, Raymond and Carl Stewart.
