Charlotte G. VanKirk, 80, of Burlington and formerly of Prospect and Kentucky, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, September 19, 2022. She now joins her beloved husband John VanKirk who passed away less than a year ago. Charlotte was born in New Haven on July 3, 1942, a daughter of the late William and Velma (King) Quick.
Charlotte proudly served her country in the US Air Force, which is where she met her husband at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey. She was a loving mother to her four daughters Kimberly, Karen, Kristen and Karolyn. Her family was always her first priority, yet Charlotte also devoted her time to her community as a member of the American Legion #113, the OES #174 Elizabethtown Chapter and was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary Prospect Fire Dept.
Charlotte was the friendly face that welcomed children in the morning as they boarded her school bus as she was a school bus driver for seventeen years for the Region #16 School District. She made sure her little charges made it safely home every day despite whatever the weather conditions. She had a love for travel and adventure. She and her late husband John traveled the country on their Goldwing riding with the American Legion Riders and the Masonic Motorcycle Club International. But wherever the roads took them, home base was always with their family. Mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt or friend, Charlotte leaves a beautiful legacy of independence, strength of spirit, unconditional love and gentleness of heart.
Left to honor Charlotte’s love and memory are her daughters Kimberly (Kevin) Eustace of Prospect, Karen (David) Wagner of Burlington with whom Charlotte made her home, Kristen (Daniel) Turgeon of Tucson Az, and Karolyn (Brent) Griswell of Elizabethtown, KY. Charlotte also leaves her adoring grandchildren Erik, Jason, Sean, Raelynne, Heather, Brenna and Sydney and two step grandchildren Kelsey and Jesse as well as her great grandchildren Adam, Everly and Lennyn. She is also survived by her brother Raymond Quick of Clinton.
Charlotte is welcomed to heaven by her beloved husband John and her grandsons Ryan Eustace and Chad Cables as well as her sister Velma Quick and brother William Quick Jr.
