Obituary

WWII Army Nurse Corp Veteran, Loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother

 

Ann P. Egan, 97, of Prospect, formerly of Brookline, Mass., passed away peacefully Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Waterbury Hospital.  She was the widow of her beloved John Joseph Egan.  Ann was born July 23, 1923 in Omaha, Nebraska a daughter of the late Fawcett ”Foy” Porter and Ruth (Edwards) Porter.

Ann proudly served her country in WWII as a physical therapist in the Army Nurse Corp. with the 163rd General Hospital in Cambridge, England and after the war continued to improve the lives of others as a PT throughout her long career.  After her discharge from the Army, she went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Education from Tufts University. 

Ann was a passionate dog lover.  She had award winning Bernese Mountain Dogs and King Charles Cavalier Spaniels and showed them to many titles.  Ann belonged to many clubs including; the Hockamock Kennel Club and the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Nashoba Valley, drafting and training her dogs well into her 80’s. She assisted children in learning to read with the Foster Grandparents Program at Wakelee Elementary School in Wolcott, served in many roles at the VFW Post 7330 Senior Veterans Corp and adored her time spent at the Prospect Senior Center. 

Ann always enjoyed camping with family and the wonderful adventures they had together.  The highlight of her later years was time spent with grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Ann lived an amazing 97 years, rarely slowing down for a minute.  She had so much energy, spirit and a sense of adventure, a true bright light in our world.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory, life and legacy are her son James “Skip” Egan of Prospect, daughter in law Catherine Thompson of Prospect, grandchildren Keith Egan of Southington, Eric (Lori) Egan of Wolcott, Heather (Nick) Esposito of Perkasie, Pa., Kimberly Crutchfield of Wolcott, Kyle Egan of Prospect and Brenda Egan of Southington.  Ann’s great-grandchildren were the light of her life; Alyssa, Brendon, Taylor, Bryson, Kaylee, Brian, Logan, Pierceson, Hunter and Daylin brought her so much joy.  She also leaves her cherished niece Elizabeth Jennings-Sevillano of Az., and nephews Robert Jennings and Stephen Jennings of Ca. and many friends.

Besides her husband John, Ann was preceded in death by her sister Georgia Jennings and her grandson James Egan.

Funeral Services for Ann will be held Monday, January 4, 2021 at 12 pm at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Rd., Prospect.  Walk- through calling hours will be held from 10 am until the time of the service. Your compliance with all CDC/ DPH Covid 19 guidelines and capacity restrictions is greatly appreciated.
